The water abstraction parameters by source are:
- Groundwater abstraction
- Surface water abstraction
---- from rivers
---- from natural reservoirs (lakes)
---- from artificial reservoirs

The water abstraction parameters by source and economic activity, include the following sectors:
- Agriculture, forestry and fishing (NACE Section A)
- Irrigation (Part of NACE Section A - Groups 01.1 to 01.3)
- Aquaculture (NACE Section A - Class 03.22)
- Mining and quarrying (NACE Section B)
- Manufacturing (NACE Section C)
- Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (NACE Section D)
- Water collection, treatment and supply (NACE Section E - Division 36)
- Construction (NACE Section F)
- Accommodation and food service activities (NACE Section I)
- Other economic activities (NACE Sections G, H and J to U).

Specific parameters cover water abstraction, by source, for cooling purposes in:
- Manufacturing (NACE Section C);
- Production, transmission and distribution of electricity (NACE Section D - Class 35.11 to 35.13).

Water abstraction for hydropower generation is also requested.

Finally, specific parameters focus on abstraction for domestic purposes (households) from:
- Surface water
- Groundwater
- Rainwater harvesting
